Remark from the President
This organization represents not only a commitment to supporting newcomers and building community, but also a lifelong dream that was born in my heart when I was just a child.
Growing up in a Catholic and Anglican home, evenings were often spent in block rosary prayers. It was in those moments, surrounded by faith and community, that I learned the value of helping others. Whether it was volunteering to assist elderly neighbors or doing chores as a form of discipline, helping became a way of life. Fetching water, gathering firewood, sleeping alongside the elderly for their comfort, these tasks taught me to see and respond to need.
As I grew older and took on leadership roles both in my hometown and later in the city, I continued to embrace the mission of serving others. Leading a group of over 400 individuals and working with women and those with complex needs prepared me for the challenges ahead when I moved to Canada in 2018 as a refugee.
Settling in a new country with my family of five was a journey of resilience. Everything was unfamiliar—land, food, people—but through these trials, I gained deeper insight into the needs of those around me. Volunteering with Resettlement Resource Service in Ottawa showed me the power of collective effort in helping families rebuild their lives. It fueled my passion and gave me the courage to step forward on my own initiative to assist refugees and immigrants, bringing them food, support, and the comfort of our shared language and traditions. In April 2024, The Angels Foundation was officially incorporated—a milestone that turned a dream into reality. Since then, we’ve touched the lives of over 500 individuals, connected 12 newcomers to full-time employment, and created a space where people feel cared for and valued. But none of this would be possible without the unwavering support of friends, family, and volunteers. Together, we are building a community of hope and resilience. Today, I invite you to join us in this mission. Let us continue to stand by those who need a helping hand and show them the motherly love, compassion, and kindness that so many of us were fortunate to receive. Thank you, and may The Angels Foundation continue to be a beacon of hope for all.
